Harbor Seal Yoga

I took this at Pt.Lobos National Preserve on the Monterey Peninsula. This young Harbor Seal really didn't want to leave its rock; the tide was coming in and kept submerging the rock.Mostly it was napping, but it stretched a little between naps and waves.

Canon 5d, M3,ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/160sec.

It was a foggy day and I tried to boost the contrast so it didn't look so flat.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Hi Kathy. He's performing quite a balancing act on that rock and this creates a real tension in the photo, both figuratively and literally. Without your explanation about the fog I was thinking maybe you used a low quality lens, etc. to create the image, hence the low contrast. Perhaps it might be best to leave the fog as is or increase it and just go with the feel of a soggy day. I really don't know if this would work and I honestly would likely have done exactly as you did, but playing devil's advocate here, leaving or enhancing the fog might be pretty cool too.

I think this is quite the likable image, with a composition that works well. My only wish would be for open eyes, and maybe he/she did not give that to you.
