This is a shot from the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque from last weekend. These little guys are very active. I was pre-focused on this perch and just waited the guy out to see if he would land in a nice place. Finally he did and I was able to capture a couple decent frames.

This is full frame. A Couple of minor clones in the upper left and upper right corners to remove distracting leaves.

Canon 50D, 500mm f/4 with 1.4x TC
ISO 400
1/320 @ f/5.6
580 EX Flash @ -2

Keith, I saw this pre-focus on a nice perch and wait technique used this past summer when I was photographing with some very serious and good bird photographers. This technique requires far more patience than I will ever have, but it sure did pay off in this case. What a beautiful setting to show off this gorgeous bird. :toast:

Have to love it when they do what they are supposed to! Very, very nice job Keith, you got him looking in the right direction along that perch as well. :toast:

Delicate bird on a fine branch. Sounds like a good approach if the birds are willing to work along ! I like it a lot ! Well done, cheers, Hans

Absolutely wonderful capture Keith. Really a handsome looking little fellow. Just so happens that I was in southeastern Iowa on Saturday along the Mississippi in the Port Louisa NWR and some Iowa fisheries and wildlife people were banding Wilson's and Tennessee Warblers. I apologize for piggybacking onto your thread but was thinking this is a first year Wilson's. Am I close or way off? :toast:

Love Warblers and you were lucky to get this on this perch. Can never seem to get a shot of them they are so quick.

The yellow looks so nice against the muted green background. The detail of the bird is great. Love the colors and composition,
