A Spot of Blue

Another image from my new D7100!! We were driving the backroads when we noticed a flock of mountain bluebirds perched on the fence posts and wires. Being bluebirds, they naturally did not cooperate  . I finally managed to find a somewhat cooperative bluebird perched on the barbed wire, and captured some images of him before he flew off to join the rest of the flock.

This is about 95% full-frame...even though it does look good cropped, I liked the backlit grasses/background and the overall look and feel of the image so decided to leave it as shot.

Please view the LARGER version if you have time!

Thanks for lookin'! :wavey:

Nikon D7100
Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 IF-ED lens
ISO 1600 (I was hoping for flight shots!)
1/1600sec @ f/4
handheld from truck window
Converted from RAW using Phase One Capture One Pro 7
MINIMAL adjustments to tone using Nik Viveza 2 and light application of Dfine 2
Cropped to app 95% of original

First of all I am always jealous with these birds, since we don't have them here  . I really like this image, since it shows the surroundings very nicely, where at the same time the bird really stands out ! Good job ! Hans

Real nice...I can tell the bird is nice and sharp, even when this small in the frame. I like the slight diagonal formed with the wires and the way it divides the frame into thirds. Well seen and captured. Sharon
