Woodcock Camo

Hi Everyone! It's been a while since my family and I have been posting here but we are happy to be back! One of the things that kept us away was an amazing 5wk road trip all across the northern States this spring (from Alberta to New York!). We even managed to time it to be at the Black Swamp Observatory at Magee Marsh in Ohio for "The Biggest Week" in birding! While we were there, I found this woodcock trying its best to not be noticed. I did get pictures that show its beak and body better, but I kinda liked the way it looks like it's trying to hide in this picture. I also love his big beautiful brown eye looking back at me.

I think this is the first picture I have posted in the Avian Gallery taken with my Nikon V1 that my parents bought me for my 13th birthday last year. I also got the adapter to use our regular lenses on it, and this was taken with my favourite lens, the Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment!

Dad's processing notes:
Converted from RAW using Phase One Capture One Pro 7
MINOR use of Nik Viveza 2 and selective toning in PS5 (this is pretty much exactly as captured)

this is just fantastic, Marlise. I really like the hidden bird with that big eye showing so well.

I really like this one too. That eye is awesome, perfectly focused. Great photo of this guy trying to blend into it's environment.

That liquid eye is killer. Nice find....even though the bird did its best to avoid being seen. Sharon
