The surrounding trees create a wonderful background pattern, which I feel was enhanced by the conversion. Nice choice, Vincent.

Fantastic. Looks like a fine art pen and ink drawing. Thanks.

Really captivating photo Vincent. The elephants raised trunk is echoed in the upward reaching tree trunks, rather poetic. The black and white gives this a beautiful fine art feel. :toast: :toast:

Nice composition, textures and tonal range here Vincent.
But, no glint in the eye??
Reminds me of Mana Pools.

PS: I really like this one!

I am not too sure about this one, Vincent. In the larger photo, the elephant seems to get lost in the tangle of trees and branches. However, I seem to be the odd one out on this!

I've been back to view this 3 times over the past few days. Still trying to make up my mind.
Most of the monochrome images posted show the main subject with very little going on in the background to distract from it.
This is very different. The trees close in around the elephant to create a much more complex image.
The raised trunk works really well amongst the trees and there is so much detail I find myself looking at this for much longer than many other photos wondering how it would look if the elements were positioned slightly differently.
Would it be better without the large tree on the left? How would it look if the elephant wasn't quite so central?
I honestly don't know - and so I'll keep coming back for another look. :toast:

One of the things most impressive (to me) about elephants is their uncanny ability to blend into their surroundings given their massive bulk. I like this because his posture and upraised trunk make it feel as if he is trying to blend into the sinewy mass of tree trunks and branches! Cool.
