Something stuck in here!

Here is one from 2007 from Daroji. Daroji used to be a 'watering station' in the days of steam locomotives on the way to a small town called Hospet, which is where you needed to stay if you wanted to visit the magnificent ruins of the Vijayanagar Empire at Hampi. Google 'Hampi' if you want to have a peek at these 500 year ruins of an empire that once held sway over more of India than the Moghul Empire ever did!
The Maharajah of nearby Sandur, M.Y. Ghorpade, a renowned wildlife photographer himself, was instrumental in establishing this sloth bear sanctuary at Daroji, just a stone's throw away from Hampi.
Species: Sloth bear (Melursus ursinus)
Location: Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Karnataka, India
Equip: Canon 20D, Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 lens at 360mm
Specs: ISO 800, f5.6, 1/320s, beanbag on vehicle, -0.3 exp comp

The 20D was my first digital camera that I had acquired just a few months earlier. Isn't it amazing just how much detail there is in the bear? Modern software (Nik Color Efex Pro, Viveza and Sharpener Pro) can bring out detail that was not possible earlier!

Ajit, nice detail, composition, and action. I started digital with a 20D too. We all appreciate the software now available to work with these images. Not to take away from your skills, but from my experience, I am surprised at the retained detail with the 20D at ISO 800. No shadow so I assume cloudy or in a shadow. Nevertheless, a great photo. Congrats.

Cute pose and taken from an angle that really show the action. Well done.

Interesting historical information Ajit. Image quality looks very good I agree. Your bear looks a bit distressed, did he actually have something lodged in his mouth - it sure looks like it? This appears to be a cub, small teeth. I guess they get into some trouble with these sort of issues as they explore their enviornment, like other young animals.

I love the texture of clarity in the bear's fur here... :toast:
