This is a shot from the Hood Canal this June. While cruising the tide lands looking for a meal this eagle paused, and hovered for a moment before diving down to capture it's meal.

Canon MkIV, 600mm, 1/1600, f8, ISO 800, manual stutter and spot meter, cropped all around 15%

All your comments and suggestions a very much appreciated

You certainly captured nice image of this BE. Well composed, nice BG, great pose from the bird. My only nit is that it would be nice to try and pull out some detail and color from the underwings and belly. Just enough to show that it isn't a black and white bird. I'd like it in my portfolio. Well done.

Nice exposure on the whites, always a challenge. Along with Peter I'd like to see just a bit more underwing detail, but I know from experience that is hard to get when not blowing out whites. Nicely done. :wavey:

Really like this shot. I too would like to see more detail under the wings. Perhaps a layer mask to only target the wings.

Nice flight pose, love the slightly turned head. Agree with other comments about the wing details. It looks to me like the contrast it a bit too high and that may have been a culprit is the dark wings lack of detail.

A unique Eagle shot because of the head position. Everything about this says "Classic". The 3-banded Background couldn't be better. Well up to the high Archer standards. I just about agree that the wings could be lightened just a touch, but I can see some detail in them.

Hello Everyone,

"Thank You" so much for your input on this photo. I am embarrassed to admit that I had not calibrated my monitor in a couple months. After your comments about the loss of detail under the wings, I calibrated my monitor and re-worked the photo from scratch. I believe there is better detail in this version and over-all I like this reproduction much better.

It's a great pose, Ken, and I like the eagle's placement against that background.

As for the two posts, I suspect my preference would lie somewhere in between. The first seems a bit contrasty, with loss of detail in the dark plumage and the white head, but the repost seems to lack some contrast, though the detail is certainly better. It's a nice shot either way, of course.
