Canyon Gold + repost

This past Sunday, some rain showers passed over the Grand Canyon, which I figured would be a good opportunity for rainbows as the region to the west was forecast to be drier and would let the setting sun into the canyon. This is a crop from a 4 image horizontal stitch.

Awesome! Beautiful and rare treat to see that rainbow! Frame to frame...full of texture and colors. A no-nit winner. Four frame stitch shouts out for a big wall-hanger....which this deserves.

Sweet light and great composition. The rainbow adds a lot to the image.

Love the varied shades of red here and the rainbow to top it off. I bet this would look printed huge!

Pretty amazing shot - the light is perfect. I'm tempted to crop a bit off the top for a print to just above the glowing cloud even though you would loose a little rainbow. The little xtra on top would work for copy for a cover  The large version looks a little over sharpened but that is minor compared to the drama you captured. The full 4 images must be pretty cool too. Do add a link to that if you get a chance.

Saw the Summer Gold Image, great view you captured!

Doug, Such beautiful light and color in this fantastic scene! I agree with Harry's crop suggestion as far as a print goes if you decide to do that. Really nice work!

A different view of the Grand Canyon especially with the rainbow. Don't think I have seen an image with a rainbow from here.

Thank you for the comments and the crop suggestion. I was at Yavapai Point and people were sitting 3 deep on the west side waiting for the sunset. I went around the point and 100 yards east and had the point by myself. Harry, here is a link to the stitch of 4 vertical images.

Doug, this is fantastic. Top-tier of a portfolio for sure. I'll mention a nit for me is that the clouds look just a little over processed, mainly the clouds in the distance look like they've got just a little too much contrast or clarity. Maybe just an issue of personal preference. Either way this is an outstanding capture. :toast:

fabulous light and scene. some funky stuff going on in the clouds but probably easily remedied.

Stuart, I see the banding around the orange cloud. I do not notice it in other versions. Hmmm. I need to go back then and figure out its cause.

Very nice light and detail Doug. The rainbow is certainly a nice addition.

I agree with comments about something funky in the clouds, but I am on a work monitor which is not calibrated so take that with a grain of salt. Beautiful light on those canyon walls, and the rainbow is icing on the cake. Honestly, if you can fix the clouds, I would crop a little off the bottom rather than the top as I think the sky is more interesting than the bottom edge.

Stunning! Love the warm tone and the superb light. Rainbow doesn't hurt either.

Beautiful shot here and I really enjoyed the other ones on your web site. Such gorgeous, warm light here and the rainbow and clouds are the icing on the cake.

This is one of the best Grand Canyon images I've seen in some time, Doug.
The composition, light and your 'development' are absolutely top notch. Banding and noise are quite evident in the large view, but I'm sure you'll be able to fix that stuff. There's no doubt in my mind that this is Arizona Highways worthy. Bravo!

I usually agree with John--not this time :frown:
I much prefer the other shots you posted; the bow is too weak here and the shot seems a bit flat to me; most of the depth is way in the back. Just my take.

Here is a revision. I have slightly brightened and added some saturation to the red cloud and rainbow, and applied a noise filter to soften the clouds. Let me know how you feel about the slight additional space added on the right also. Thank you for your prior feedback and input.
