Dune Shadow

A shadow cuts across a dune in White Sands National Park. I spent a lot of time in White Sands the winter I lived near there, but I think this simple image is one of my favorites. I'm interested in what you all think about it.

Minolta Maxxum 7, 20-35mm lens, 2 secs at f/11, Fuji Velvia 50, Gitzo Tripod

ya know, when you preface the shot by 'it's one of my favs' the odds of you getting an honest opinion go signifcantly wayyy down  If you don't believe me, say "i really hate this shot, but i want to know what you think" and see what happens.
Seriously, Ive taken literally thousands of dune abstracts so i do have a pretty solid opinion of this. What i like about it is the beautiful arc and the bold conrasting colors from sky to dune. What i dont care for is that there is too much 'messy' detail in the sand, particularly the shadowed area. A crop of the right half, along with a bit off the bottom and rhs, is much stronger to my eye. But it's a solid shot overall.

Surprised this doesn't have more comments (yet, at least). I think it's wonderful and the mix of warm and cool colors is very pleasant.

I like the form and shapes in this a lot. To me, this is begging to be converted into B&W, but that's just me.

Overall I really like the form and shape of this image, especially from a distance. But I would like a little more detail/texture when inspecting the shadow areas up close. I can see why you really like this image though, since all considered it provides a really nice peaceful mood
