Old Navajo Bridge
by Tony Kuyper
This is the old Navajo Bridge by Lees Ferry, Arizona. Highway 89A crosses the Colorado River gorge at this point. It's an impressive sight. Green/blue water flowing in the river channel with yellowish-red walls for contrast. The visitor's center here is definitely worth a stop as is a slow walk across this old bridge that is now reserved for foot traffic only.
Again wanted to try black and white to bring out line and texture in this image. Compared to the previous photo with the sleek lines of the new bridge, this old bridge does appear a bit rickety. If you look closely, it almost seems there is one large bolt near the top of the arch that holds it all together. Still, the human engineering that went into the bridge is a nice match for the natural geological engineering that went into making the canyon itself. It's nice to partake of both at the same time.
Would as always appreciate your thoughts and suggestion.
