American Goldfinch

Another juvenile of this species. This was taken on a foggy morning, hence the positive compensation on the exposure. Some annoying bg twigs cloned.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f13 (a futile attempt to get the entire bird in focus), 1/500, Av mode with + 1 stop of compensation, iso 640. Processed in CS6 and cropped to 11.8MP. Taken August 7th at 9:31 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis,

Nice looking bird, I find DOF on ling lenses almost impossible no matter what F stop, there is I believe a scientific explanation

I would consider cloning the leaf in the top right hand corner

Of the recent juvi goldfinch postings I like this one the best. Much better lighting to help show the more muted plumage of the young ones. I also like seeing the back view and the head turn. Very nicely done!

Even with the Goldfinch's tail out of focus, you have a great photograph. May be it is the compression factor (big lens short distance?)

Dennis, excellent pose, detail & color. My preference would be to get rid of the leaf top right. The OOF tail tip I would say is a slight problem.
