Loggerhead Seaturtle

This Loggerhead Seaturtle was released by the local Marine rehab group along with 3 Kemp's Ridley's. What made this Loggerhead release special was that it briefly surfaced in the ocean after release which creates a more unique photo op than the turtle simply crawling on the sand. I removed the transmitter's antennae from the image because it was particularly distracting - but left the actual transmitter.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 HH
f/8
1/2000
ISO 640

Cropped to 75%, minor adjustments made

Wow, don't see this sort of photo very often. Nice look at the turtle before he submerged. It's pretty hard to overlook the transmitter, so might as well show the entire kit - antennae and all.

Luke,
I have no idea but assume that an image of this animal would be almost impossible to capture under normal circumstances.
The "collar" is not ideal, but I understand the need for some research on this endangered animals, although like everywhere in the world the use of "tracking" is grossly overdone.

Neat shot Luke, like the water action that shows movement so well.
I'm with Gary, I'd go with the whole kit.

I agree with the rest. Might as well have the whole transmitter. Thanks for the picture! We get loggerheads here on the Georgia Coast, but I have yet to see one. Only the highway signs! :frown:
