Dragonfly Species Battle

Canon7D, 70-300lens,1/1600sec,f7.1,ISO500,bright cloud.Approx 50% of original. Some PS adjustment. It seems that the Eastern Pondhawks are more common this year than usual and I can always count oa a battle between them & Blue Dashers - perhaps competing for the same niche?. Does the BG bother anyone?

Simply an outstanding image of dragonfly action. For me, I'l take the background as it is with such a splendid catch of these insects.

Wow, Roger, you got them coming and going! Great catch of the dragonfly dogfight. The bg is a bit contrasty, but not too bad although it is a bit noisy. You mentioned the crop. I don't suppose you took any off the bottom but if you did, I'd add a little back.

In a perfect world the background is a bit distracting in this one...but in the real world I recognize that this is not an easy image to capture. I think this is quite nice considering the difficulty involved. :toast:

Really fine capture of the insects, Roger ! They are pretty well isolated from the bg, though perhaps some further softening of it would bring the dragonflies into even stronger prominence ? I rather like the high contrast lighting.

Great capture Roger. Your either very very good or very lucky or both as these guys move at blazingly fast speeds. I do think blurring the background a bit would definitely help but that's a lot of work. Still a great image as it stands. :toast:
