Warming in the Sun

I've been on the road the past few weeks enjoying a long planned two week trip to Zimbabwe and South Africa. As part of the trip we spent three wonderful days in Hwange NP, Zimbabwe. The grass was still very tall and had turned a beautiful golden brown. The nights were very cold and this lioness was seemingly enjoying the first warming rays of sun one cold, breezy morning. The sun was just starting to bathe everything in that glorious early morning light as she started to sit up. She gazed into the rising sun for the longest time then briefly glanced over at us before walking over to the nearby male to continue their mating activities...more on that to follow.

C&C always appreciated, thanks for looking.

Wow, the prose was getting pretty steamy Joseph, you really had me captivated. Just teasing, but it actually sets up the photo for us nicely. Techs look good with some interesting light in this golden scene.

Joseph,

She is a beauty with a great expression, I hope to see her in a couple of weeks.
You are right about the cold, it is bitter there in June, Hwange is a must.

Joseph, I like the intensity of the stare and the surrounding grasses make for a nice setting. It is a bit a pity that a few grasses overlap her muzzle, where they become distracting rather than complimentary.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, she really was a beauty.

Ken - good luck! I hope you find this pride, they are really engaging. I also hope you find the Wild Dogs, we did in a big way but more on that later.
