The Subway - Zion National Park - November 2010

Looking back, I felt that the original full-frame version of this image from a few years ago lent itself well to a vertical panoramic crop. So here it is.

Canon 5DII
Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II
16mm, f/13, 25 seconds, ISO 50, polarizer

This comp works well Jim, very good interest.
I especially like the colorful leaves FG, and the light shining through the rock formation at frame 'subway' center:toast:

Who would figure the subway could make such a nice pano. This is excellent, Jim. A very nice split between the floor or deck here and the water. Basically, the placement of the actual subway wall and the rest of the scene cropped exceptionally well overall.

Seeing this brought back some scary moments for me. Years ago a friend and I hiked here from the lower area and while heading up stream he fell HARD on the rock falls area. Thankfully he was OK and nothing broken. Could have been a disaster being this deep into the park

Lots of interesting elements to view in this image, Jim. I like the colors of the vegetation, the lichens on the rocks, and the water color. Some great lines and angles in this too, such as the slanted horizontal layering of the rocks, the shape of the large rock on the right, and the angled shoreline around the pool. But I especialy like the very cool tunnel in the rock which is made even more special by the lighting at the end of the tunnel.

The vertical crop works very well for this scene, Jim. I think I like it as well as the original version. A great shot and a nice composition choice for the crop!

Fantastic Jim. Love the little bit of light coming from the subway, the colors on top and the grey stone walls mixed with the aqua green water. Great composition and excellent lightwork.

The colors and long leading line work really well here. The turquoise water and the light shining through the tunnel are neat additions. It sure interesting to compare this version with your earlier post. I like them both, but this version does seem more dynamic.
