This young tiger cub was photographed in very low, morning light, a few minutes after entering the park.

D300 200-400mm + 1.4x
f6.7 1/250 ISO 800
Handheld

This is cute, Butch. Love the angle and stare, and the setting.
The image seems quite "grainy" for ISO-800? Having shot with the D300s I would have expected the D300 to perform similarly at that ISO setting?
I would definitely tone down overall luminosity and add some midtone contrast as well.

I like the pose and stare of the tiger. I think Morkel has made some very good suggestions.

I like the pose and lok you're getting Butch. I have to agree with Morkel on the noise and processing suggestions.

Butch,
I can only agree with the other observations regarding the noise, is this a large crop?
From my rather limited sightings of Tigers this looks a tad too red to me.

Love that beautiful face and the wonderful orange/brown color harmony, although I do agree that the colors are a bit too orange. That tiger is too handsome for words, the photo comes close though! :toast:

Very sharp in the face area with excellent composition. Previous suggestions sound on target.

The framing is compositional strong and I like the clean focus on his face. The colors seem slightly dulled. Perhaps some added concentration with saturation tweaks would make this stronger.

Just look at those cute, innocent eyes! I am always amazed by how few flies are found on big cats in India, compared to Africa, where countless flies almost obscure lions' faces! But, even in Africa, you don't find so many flies on cheetahs' faces or leopards' faces. Is it that these latter two big cats, and tigers, keep themselves cleaner than lions? On the other hand, I don't recall seeing too many flies on Indian lions' faces! Mysterious! Can anyone throw light on this?
