Zion National Park - October 2011

Even though Desert Bighorn Sheep are commonly seen in the eastern region of Zion, it was quite a few years before I was in the right place at the right time to capture a few decent images.

Canon 5DII
Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS
200mm, f/7.1, 1/500 second, ISO 100, hand held

Nice technicals Jim, crisp and clear where it needs to be. It feels just a bit tight around the sheep. Nice perspective with the BG.

It feels a bit tight to me to try to have a more horizontal subject (sheep) fit into a narrow veritical comp. I do like the view it gives though of all the different layers throughout this image. Very nice colors, lighting, comp, layers, focus choice. . .but just too tight on the sides. Now if he was standing on his hind legs like Charlie's weasel, it might work better!

The colors and the strong focus on the sheep work really well. I too wish there was a bit more space along the sides.

And a nice capture it is. The framing gives you a nice sense of the environment; like that the foreground is sharp and his eyes are too. Nice pose too; looks to be on the edge going down.

The clarity in the bighorn works excellent in this scene with the fading BG area. Color and detail in the sheep is very nice.

Jim, this caught my eye as I was very lucky to have seen a bighorn up at Checkerboard Mesa in ZNP area years ago now. He was on the south side of the road and crossed over to the north side taking his time walking the sandstone edgy path. I say "he" as it was a sheep with the very large curved horns. Not sure if that is a male / female item or just an adult from kid item.

Normally an animal photo needs some space but this pano composition actually works very nicely in this case. I like it, Jim!
