This is from a remote vista overlooking the confluence of the Colorado river and the Little Colorado river gorge. It is a big scene to take in with this small jpeg display, be sure to check out the large version!

Single image from
Nikon D800
f5.6, 1/6, ISO100, EV -1.33, 14mm

Any feedback or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shane

Really pretty colors! I love the convergence of the two lines of water and how they complement each other and keep the eye in the frame of the photograph at the same time. It is also icing on the cake having the rock formation block the line of the rivers from exiting the frame of the photo, that helps tremendously. I also like how I can't tell the scale of the bottom right if it is 10 feet or 1000 feet from the camera. Is the horizon tilted a little to the right, though?

Thanks for sharing, Shane! :toast:

Hi Johan

Thanks for your comments.

That formation on the right is about 1500 deep, with the floor of the canyon about 3000' deep. I'll check for the rotation, my eyeometer and camera suggested it was straight.

Shane, it just seems to slump off in the last 3rd of the right side. I know oh too well how often level image doesn't look level due to visual trickery. Maybe doing a box selection in photoshop of that area and skewing the right side upwards would help.

That's just being super nit picky though.

Very nice image, Shane. Great location and time of day. A bit more light would make the foreground more interesting but this depicts the scene accurately.. I'm so used to the great lighting in all your work.

I like the contrast between the blue CR and muddy LCR.
You might lighten the shadows about 3% and see if you like it. To me, the canyon looks a smidge dark.

Wonderful sky colors and detail in the canyon Shane. And I like the rivers winding through the canyon. Very nicely done.

What a scene Shane! Love how the two water ways converge with their different colors. You had some great light to work with and the overall tonal range seems appropriate to me. It definitely has to be viewed large to appreciate the detail here. No nits from me here.

Jeffrey & Doug

I will experiment with lightening the canyon a bit and repost another tomorrow. I wanted to keep the canyon darker to bring more emphasis to the rivers but I will see how much I can increase it without drawing attention from the rivers.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Fantastic composition, light and color. A lot to look at here and I have no doubt it was a lot to take in being there. I love seeing new perspectives of the Grand Canyon.
