Light Catchers+ Repost
by Peter Coskun
After various trial and error working on this image, I finally decided this may be the best of the edits. The first edit seemed too cramped, then I tried a vertical which seemed overpowering with the cacti, and then I came to this where I gave some breathing room to the cholla and tried to even the light out a bit. This is a blend of two exposures for dynamic range photographed in the superstition mountains after a passing monsoon storm. This view overlooks the goldfield mountains, an area which I plan on exploring much more of in the future. As always, comments and critiques appreciated.

Great work Peter, thanks for posting.
Zack- For some reason the Orton appears a lot stronger on here than it does posted elsewhere (I'm guessing compression since I had to size this down a bit to post). When I use the Orton effect, I brush over the landscape at 50% first and then small steps down from there in case there are any hiccups. In this case, I used a 20% opacity over the entire image and then brushed over the landscape once at 50% allowing only 10% glow on the cacti. They were already glowing in the RAW file and if I pushed the Orton any further than that it looked far too glowy. I also see what you mean with the greens. That is something I could probably tone down a bit as well as the brush on the lower right.

Marc- You make a very good point about cropping cholla. It's no wonder I have the most difficult time using them into a composition, but to me they are simply the most incredible cacti to photograph as they are extremely photogenic (backlit or not).
I'll have to get around to adjusting that green and introducing a little more warmth to the scene. I'll get a re-post up as soon as possible.
Well executed!
