Marmot's View

A solo hike into the Olympic Mountain Wilderness several weeks ago resulted in this sunrise.

About the shot.
Two shots focus stacked and exposure blended.
Canon 6D
16-35L @ 35mm
F8 for both shots
No filters

Thanks for looking and any feedback you may provide!

:wavey:

Edit: I changed the title and removed my story about the night leading to this shot, as it was probably unnecessary for critique. Sorry about posting that.

Edit again:
Short version of story? I was kept up all night by a mountain goat trying to lick my face as I slept under the stars sans tent. Ornery things, those mountain goats. Almost soiled my sleeping bag when I first woke up to him staring me in the face. Those creepy little beady eyes...

Hi Johan. It looks to be a very beautiful scene and nice composition. That said it's very difficult to critique as you say it's only part processed. It would be better to finish the processing and then make changes if wanted afterwards. I hope this helps.

Bill, the finishing touches of processing are just removing small artifacts from the focus stack.

You should not be able to tell any difference at this size.

Sorry for the confusion.

Nice use of the blending and focus stacking. I especially like the composition anchored by the tree. The exposure is great as it preserves the details on the branches, but does not appear to me to be too light. It might be interesting to see if the lower right corner details could be brought out somewhat as that area is fairly large.

Thanks for the feedback, that was exactly the one thing I was contemplating. I added a very slight, but noticeable amount of light back to the mid-tones in the lower right. Not too much to reduce the depth of the shot, hopefully.

I'm enjoying the second post here, Johan. I feel the adjustments you made improves the viewing aspect overall.

Sorry I did not get to read the original story you had posted with the image. In many cases short stories as a lead in can really add to the experience too. But as you've stated it's more important to get the image the prime attention for possible critique and comments.

I actually got a kick out the goat story. But, yes, it isn't relevant to a critique. I don't think it was necessary to remove it, but that's just my opinion.

I like the mood in this one. You've captured that "very early and high up" feeling, and the comp has nice depth as well. The repost is right on for me for detail in the lrc. Well done.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Much appreciated. It's very rare that I keep photos with no clouds in the sky, but this one at least has some tree hanging up in there.

Looked like one of those magical mornings even with little or no sleep. The slightly dodged version is a winner in my book. Thanks for the lead in story, that was fantastic. :toast:

That small adjustment of light in the repost put some very nice subtle details in the LLC, Johan. I actually got to read your story before you removed it and I loved it. Stories like that help the viewer with the overall expierence IMO. Clouds would have been nice, but I really like the gradation of pastels in the sky.

Perfect comp. I'm only wanting more sky interest. But other than that, I love it! :toast:

Outstanding depth and color. That story sounds interesting. I would have liked to have read it.

I love the story about the goat, wish you had left the full story posted.

This is a very pretty capture and I really like the semi-pano format. The only area of improvement I can see has nothing to do with the image itself but the white background color. I think the image would be better viewed with a darker background color, like dark gray or black.
