Zion National Park - October 2011

I suppose this is not an uncommon school of thought. I believe that one of the most important keys to success in nature photography, particularly landscape photography, is to compose an image which effectively and pleasingly captures the chaos that is inherent in nature, in effect using composition to reduce that chaos to a level which the mind can easily comprehend and enjoy, while still portraying the essence of that aspect of nature being photographed.

Such a rich and interesting image. I'm always intrigued by natures patterns, great job in seeing the potential.

I like this. I think the square format adds to the chaos of the patterns in the wood. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this kind of natural abstracts/patterns.
I think that this is not an easy kind of subject.
Very well seen.

I agree with your thoughts, Jim. Being able to bring some pleasing order to the chaos in nature is an important skill of a nature photographer. I think this is true for all types of nature photography and not just landscape. Certainly is true in macro and floral photography too which is what I mostly do.

To your image: This is a great illustration of the above! Wonderful capture of the wood in this old tree. I like the richness of the color, the details, and lovely swirling lines and shapes. You have created a beautiful and pleasing abstract.

Beautiful warm colors here, Jim. There's also some very fine movement following all of those swirls and knots. Very well seen.
