Here’s a shot that I took in Orford Bay a couple of years ago. In the fall spawning salmon return to the Orford River, and after walking along its banks for some way, this grizzly decided this may be a good spot to wade in and try his luck at fishing.

Tech Stuff: Canon 7D, EOS 100-400 lens @ 365mm, f/5.6, 1/350, ISO 500, CWA metering, Shutter Priority Exposure.

Always nice to see bears in water, no exception here. The raised paw and focused gaze adds. I do wish that you could have got a catchlight, but looks like the subject is slightly backlit, so those are the breaks. Haven't seen any photos from this area before, Butedale Inlet? Were you on land or ?

Really like your timing to capture the raised paw with the water dripping from it. Nice fur detail.

Rick,
Great capture here, if the head had been turned towards you just a little then this would be much improved, but getting animals to do what you would like is a rare occurence

@ Gary, this shot was taken at Bute Inlet on Homalco First Nations land. We were set up at a bend in the river photographing a sow and cub when this bear approached from upstream. This was shot was taken from the opposite bank.
