I had the opportunity to shoot my first rodeo a couple of weeks ago. It was a small local rodeo in a tiny town out on the eastern plans of Colorado.

300mm f/2.8
1/640 at f/5
ISO 400

I like the action and expression on the cowboy's face. I might crop from the left to exclude the half person. Sharon

Excellent capture of the action and the expression. I would second Sharon's crop suggestion.

Love the action, this cowboy's expression wins the prize
I also did my first local rodeo last month Kurt, it was a great experience.
Tough shooting because the actual rodeo action didn't start until dusk, and the arena lighting was poor..

Great action shot. I too would crop the left. I know how difficult it is with lighting at these events. The bright bg is a little distracting. I would have tried to darken the bg with editing filters. :toast:

Great action shot, Kurt. Love the faces of the horse, rider, and the steer. Wonderful to to see the look of determination of all three involved in their assignments of duty here.

The expression on all the actors in this action scene are what makes a rodeo. Even the gate guys in the background are in on the action. Nicely done. Kurt. Congrats for the WP!
