Coreopsis + hoverfly

by Carolyn Derstine

Gallery: FloraPosted July 10, 2013110 views11 comments
Another shot of my blooming Coreopsis and their frequent visitors, the hoverfly. This is more of a floral/macro combo, but I put it in the floral gallery since the flowers are the dominant subject.

Canon 60D. 180mm macro lens. F/5.6 at 1/400 sec. ISO 320. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

This is gorgeous Carolyn. Love the composition and, of course, the Hoverfly.

Carolyn - Excellent !!. Terrific composition with the fully bloomed and the partially bloomed Coreopsis interacting so nicely. Hoverfly adds a nice touch.

Beautiful Carolyn.. you nailed this one... Love the little flower blooming through the bigger flower and the hoverfly there. The color contrasts work very well here...

Beautiful colors in this image, Carolyn. These insects seem to gravitate towards this flower, perhaps due to their colors. The OOF blooms provide a nice backdrop. :toast:

Wonderfully lively composition, Carolyn ! I just love how the fly has seemingly adapted itself to the petal - first class lighting and colour too.

I like how the oof background shape mimics the shape of the subjects. The subject flowers glow nicely and the hoverfly is a great addition.

Goodness me! The hoverfly looks like it's part of the petal! What a fun image, well seen with the subject against the yellow blur of other flowers. Very enjoyable.
