I was leaving our local preserve yesterday morning when I spotted this guy working the fence line-sometimes singing and occasionally stopping to grab a grass seed. It was still overcast and the light wasn't the greatest, but I liked this pose.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, beanbag on car window, f7.1, 1/500, iso 400, Av mode with +1/3 compensation (I still boosted the exposure a touch in post processing). Processed in CS6 and cropped to 5.6MP. I also brightened the eye a trifle. I also rotated the image a few degrees to level the wire. Taken yesterday, July 7th at 8:37 am.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

I've always had a hard time capturing these guys well but you did it beautifully. I absolutely love how he has that twig trapped within his toes against the barbed wire whether intentional or not it's really cool. :toast:

Nice action shot. All the elements in the photo are working. The sparrow is sharp. I like the barb wire and the angles of the grass. :toast:

So many lines and angles in this image makes for most interesting viewing! I like the pose and low light. Well seen! Sharon

Well done, Dennis. The processing changes are subtle, but really add to the image.

This has a nice rustic feel to it that I like a lot. The dry grass adds a lot of interest and the feeding action is great - well seen and well captured Dennis.

I like the detail and behavior in this one Dennis. I read what you did on the processing. I know you had no light, but to me, it still looks a little underexposed. Wondering if you brought the exposure up a little more in PP (maybe just .25 to .35) if it would make this pop a little more?

Thanks for the suggestion on brightening the image a bit more, Kurt. Here's a repost with a 0.35 exposure boost. I think it does help a bit.
