This week's topic sent me back to my ice macros from earlier this year. Here's another icestract where a thin layer of ice on my backyard pond created interesting refracted distortions of the water lily leaves that were trying to grow. In this case, the leaf shape has me thinking of a salt water fish called the Mola (or Ocean Sunfish), hence the title. This is a crop to 65% ff of an 11 shot stack for top to bottom sharpness. (5D3, 100mm macro L, 1/6s, f/13, iso 200, tripod, cable release, mirror lock up, and polarizer)

Helleva choice for this weekly challenge, Mark. I like those overnight freezes too but haven't gotten one quite so spectacular as this. Color and patterns and everything else going for this shot.

Now that's really cool, Mark. I remember seeing your images from earlier in the year. This is another in a long line of excellent abstracts. Very well seen and captured.

Fantastic Focus Mark. Great details and great colors. I really like the variable shapes in this with the sharp angles of the ice set off by the round leaf with the gaping mouth. Cool shot. . .

Glad to see another one of your amazing ice abstracts for this challenge, Mark. These stand out so much because of your great DOF and the wonderful colors under the ice. Good/fun comp too. . .certainly does look like a fish in the middle. Another great job!

I seriously feel compelled to look into the depths of this one. I prefer the dark version. The surface textures you have been getting with your ice images are priceless.
