My wife found this little guy working its' way through the parsley in the garden. The parsley twig was a nice perch to use to work on this subject.

I don't know what kind of caterpillar it is so if someone does, I'd appreciate an ID.

Techs:
Canon 5D Mark III
100mm f/2.8 Macro
1/60 @ f/8, ISO 400
-1 EV to darken the background just a bit
2 430 EX flashes hand held off to the sides, triggered with my ST-E2 transmitter

Thanks for taking a look. I'm usually over in the Avian or Landscape galleries.

Nice job Keith, I have a few pics of similar swallowtail caterpillars, but I don't have any with that great uncluttered background or perfect depth of field :toast:

Great macro shot, Keith. I like the angled perch, the clear details on the caterpillar, the nicely blurred background, and the lighting. The colors all coordinate so nicely too. Glad you could pay the macro gallery a visit to post this fine shot.

Beautiful Swallowtail CP, Keith. The lighting and detail are superb, and the bg exceptionally clean. Expertly captured and processed. :toast:

Excellent detail in nice light, Keith. I like the diagonal comp, and the background is wonderful.

If this were from my part of the country, I'd call it a late instar black swallowtail larva (Papilio polyxenes), but I don't know if there is a closely-related similar species in Arizona.
