King Eider (c)

by Jim DeWitt

Gallery: AvianPosted July 1, 2013168 views6 comments
Canon 1D-X, 300mm, handheld
f6.3, 1/630, ISO3200

Another shot from Alaska Sealife Center in Seward, Alaska. There is zero chance of getting this close to a King Eider in the wild. There just wasn't enough light to get more DOF.

90% of full frame. Selective sharpening.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

The eye and head of the Eider are sharp and that is the essential part of the picture, you did very well in these light conditions Jim. :toast:

Nice one, Jim. If you want to play with it, I think a bit more canvas on the right would be nice.

A gaudy bird! I had a similar shot 6 years ago at the same place. I wonder if it's the same bird?

Beautiful color in the face and also the blue water ripples. A bit too much dead space up top that doesn't add to the shot IMO.

Great Image Jim and at such a high ISO,
the 1D-X seems worth the investment . . .

Great species and a nice shot as well ! It would have like to have a little more room on the right though, but would be more than happy having made this shot  , cheers, Hans
