The End

See my earlier post Eye to Eye to see the initial encounter. As you can see the Great Blue Heron decided he could eat this large shad.

Nikon D300 F8 1/500 ISO 400 with 200-400 and 1.4 teleconverter.

Let me know if this crop works for this image. A little tighter than Eye to Eye.

Thanks

That is quite the mouthful. Great action, and I like the moment you chose to show, with the fish going down but still showing its great size. The crop works well.

Great follow up to your previous shot Andrew. The crop works for me. Plenty of detail and the subtle colours are well balanced.

Nice action on this one Andrew and very sharp well exposed capture. Maybe a little tight on the right side and bottom but this just a question of taste. :toast:

Perfectly timed shot, Andrew. It's amazing just how big a fish a Heron can swallow.

Wow, amazing ! I have seen this many times, and it always seems a struggle for both fish and heron  . Great shot ! Hans

Great action capture Andrew - another GBH challenging the laws of physics. I like the crop except at the bottom where I feel we have lost the virtual feet. Nice image, thanks for sharing.

More room for the legs may have been nice, but the emphasis here is on the size of the meal. Another nice image in this series. Sharon

Andrew,
What a great shot. When I saw the first shot you posted, I did not think the bird could get the fish down. Your statement corrected that perception, and this shot is just stunning. The sequence is wonderful. The iridescence of fish, the color of the rocks, the swirling water in the foreground and the waves in the background cause me to almost smell the salt air.

Impressive capture. I like the swirl of water drops from the fish's tail.
