Nikon 5100 camera 55-200 nikkor zoom f-5.6 1/4000 ISA 400 This is a century tree which blooms once every hundred years. I only took a picture of the the top part of the tree because the bottom of the tree is the trunk and is bare of any type of flowers. It was a bright sunshiny day and the sun was harsh The next time this tree will bloom is in 100 yrs so it will be awhile before I get another chance to shoot one again. The last time this tree bloomed was in 1913.

I love the form of the tree, George and I agree with your decision to eliminate the trunk. You describe the light as harsh, but it came out looking rather mellow in the final result-probably due to the color of the flowers. I'm seeing some odd color fringing in the bg-probably due to processing.

This is a starkly beautiful image, George. I like the alternating design of the branches and the colors of the flowers. . . it all shows off well against the plain blue/gray background. I'd be tempted to crop up from the bottom just a tiny bit to get rid of short stray branch.

George - Very nice use of this tree to bring out the graphical element. I think of a spiral staircase when I see this. I have never seen this tree in person - but would love to some day.

Your file size (in KB) seems to be a little on the lower side - thereby resulting in some pixellation. I would not mind the small branch coming to the left touching the bottom edge cloned out.

George:

Thanks for sharing this image and the story. You are a lucky guy to witness and photograph this less than once in a humna lifetime event.

Like the form of the this tree. Agree with Caroline about a slight crop at the bottom. Did you use a polariser in this shot as some polarisers can give this color fringing in the bg. The vignette is a little strong in the top corners.
