Savannah Whitetail

This hazy, hot morning and the scenery before me, let my imagination wander to shooting in a faraway place, instead of my home area of Northeastern PA. (Yes, spelling can be Savanna/Savannah.)

So instead of cropping to simply show the deer, I left the photo most of frame to convey that sense I had. D90, ISO-400, 1/500th, f-7.1, 500mm, HH... larger posted, thank you for your thoughts!

I like your idea of showing more environment. I would go further by darkening the surrounding areas to add more impact to the deer. All that said, the out-of-focus shrub in the foreground is a major distraction to me.

To me Northeastern PA would be a "faraway place". Beautiful lush setting, yet the deer stands out nicely, good pose too. I also noticed the oof tree on the right foreground, not optimal.

I like how you used the layering of the landscape here Bill. Overall a lovely scene, but I also find that OOF FG bush a bit of a distraction.

Thanks everyone... hmm, the bush doesn't bother me, simply because to me, it adds to the "layering" affect that Vincent mentions. IDK, I may be alone!! lol.

Nice environmental shot and the deer is in a nice alert pose. It does look just a bit bright and the OFF bush in the foreground is a major distraction.

Bill, it is not a major distraction at all and certainly does not ruin the image for me. All I am saying is that IMO it would have been better without.
