Rock Ptarmigan

This was taken on a recent trip to Nome, Alaska. This excellent trip was organized and led by Nate Chappell. Very different and interesting place. Shooting at 1:30 AM while it was still broad daylight was very cool.

This Rock Ptarmigan was having his afternoon nap when we happened upon him and stuck around until we all got a chance to take his picture.

Nikon D800, f 5.6, 1/5000, ISO 800.

Thanks for looking and critiques appreciated.

I like the detail in this photo, specially in the ptarmigan which has such delicate colors. The BG works well. Thanks for sharing.

Nome is an amazing place, isn't it? Nice shot of transition plumage, May. Great perch, too.

Sweet light and pose! Really nice, although I do wish the feet were visible. Sounds like a great woirkshop and I wish I'd been able to go with you all.

Well sharpened and positioned. The BG is not too brash, and wonderfully smooth. The Rock is a little strong, but then it's a Rock Ptarmigan.

A wonderful portrait of this handsome fellow May. He seemed unusually co-operative for us. Excellent details and composition. Love that perch too.

Sweet Photo
