Upland Sandpiper Calling

While trying to get a shot of some Bobolinks (unsuccessfully), this bird popped up near me and gave some excited calls before flying off.

I knew it was a sandpiper, but had to look up the species when I got home. A new bird for me!

Nikon D300; 400mm; f 5.6 @1/200th; ISO 320; HH; cropped to vertical, approx. 65% FF

Al comments and suggestions most welcome.

Great pose. Nice details. I like the way the feet are positioned, the head turn is just right and the background helps the viewer stay focused. Nicely done. :toast:

Very nice. Great pose and perch. I love that right foot that is slightly raised. Smooth BG.

Real nice image! Maybe just a little off the top to get rid of the bright highlights? Super pose and bg. Sharon

I love this as posted. It's a shot I always wanted to get when I would see these birds in NJ, but I never managed to find one in the clear and off the ground like this.

Very nice detail; great perch; fine background; soft light; natural colors.

Well done.

I can't find one thing wrong with this image. A wonderful perch of a wonderful bird with a great BG. I find his right leg stretching to the slightly lower portion of the perch to be fascinating. :toast:

Nice detail and natural looking colours. The green background works well with the mottled browns of the sandpiper.
Even though the bird has its back to you the head turn and open beak combine to create a good sense of involvement.

A wonderful photo of this difficult to find bird Tom (at least for me). The background compliments the calling sandpiper very nicely. I really like the perch too.

Sweet One
