.012 slot canyon

The title is a reference to Lon's recent observation that slot canyons images can be "a dime a dozen." Thanks for the title, Lon. I am hoping the flowers sets this one apart a little (that, and the fact its not Antelope). Leave it to a flora guy to find a slot canyon with flowers! From a trip last month to Zion. The reflected light was nice when I came on this canyon. The flowers are small, especially at this size, so the larger image is cropped to provide a little better look at the flowers. Thanks for looking. Comments, questions, and suggestions (especially about the rendition of the reflected light) appreciated.

Scott, I like this. It doesn't have all the swoops and swirls that so many slot canyon shots emphasize, but it really shows lots of detail and terrific depth. The brightness in the distance helps pull my eyes from the tight V at the bottom to the back and then that bright area on the right pull them back to the bottom to make another journey through.

Nice light, lines and color in this desert scene, Scott. I know this sounds rather radical, but I like this even more with a crop from the top to just above the flowers. That simplifies the image a touch yet still retains it's essence IMO. Just a thought.

Much better in the larger version. Might want to consider cropping to better center interest on flowers. Much of bottom 1/3 may be extraneous.

I like this as presented Scott, beautiful light, color and the comp works very well for me. Beautifully seen and presented.

Very nice work Scott. I like the way you have handled the lighting, forms and colors and the flowers are that extra component that adds a lot. Chet

Scott, One really needs to look at the large version here. That really seems to make the difference with this image for me. In the smaller version I thought a crop might work well on the order of what Ed was thinking, but in the large version I do like it as is. Some nice light and wonderful warm tones.

I think those flowers really do set this one apart Scott.
I especially like the 'closeness' of the comp that displays the rock form, shape, detail, textures so well.
The light/shadow adds that 3D look too..
Last, the vegetation is just prominent enough to add nicely to your overall comp.
Well done! :toast:

Just the variety of colors and textures in the walls set this one apart. The flowers are a bonus. I think the reflected light is lovely and Yuit image quite natural looking. Excellent job taking a dime a dozen shot and making it stand on its own.

Nice light, and color/texture on the canyon walls. Small at this size, but I imagine those flowers are a nice addition in a print.

Scott,

A little late here, but wanted to comment. The larger, cropped version is excellent! The flower really shows well - not so much in the original version here. I like that you cropped some of the bulkiness at the bottom. Great job capturing and processing for that reflected light.

BTW, nice twist on the title! However, I'd say that this is a pretty fresh take on a sandstone canyon like this, especially with the flowers! So, it doesn't really fall in the .012 bucket.
