It's been a while since I've posted. I've had to focus attention else where for a while, but photography has always been with me. This shot is one of my older shots, which is part of a large batch of unprocessed material I've been working on getting ready for my upcoming website.

Landscape photography has proven to be an amazing journey of creativity and discovery for me, and certain places really stand out and resonate deeply. This shot is from one of those places... Fingal Head, a special place on the coast just over the border into New South Wales.

Thanks for viewing and have fun out there :)

D80, f/11, ISO 100. A blend of 4sec sky + 25 sec rocks.

Here's a brighter version if you prefer?

While both are very nice I prefer the second version a little better because it has a touch more shadow detail. It still retains it's mood with the rich colors of dawn and the subtle warm light on a couple of the rock faces. The diagonal placement of the water's edge is the perfect leading line directing me to the sunrise. Beautiful image, David.

Wow, This is beautiful, David! Awesome light and colors with a wonderful mood. Both versions look very good to me, but I think I prefer the bit more dramatic feel of the darker one. I like your comp here a lot too. Nice work!...also nice seeing a post from you again. :toast:

Good to see you again, David. Both versions are good with me. I really like the radial feel of the sky here and the diaganols. I migh have preferred a tad less rocks and a tad more water--but thats a minor nit, it's a winner overall. :wavey:

My eyes are captured at the bottom by the hints of color from the sky in the rocks as well as their texture. Then I get to explore all of the cloud textures and how they pull me to the distant island and the warm colors on the horizon. This is great! I like the darkness of the original post best. There does seem to be a bit of a light blur in that first ridge just to the right of center that may be an easy to fix blend artifact.

David,

Great to see a post from you! I miss those images from the "Outback." (Not sure where they were, just my reference and extent of knowledge about Australia!)

A bold image that pushes the rules - I mean the rock almost splits the frame in half diagonally, but doesn't quite. What you have done though is showcase all the diagonal from the rocky shore leading in to the frame to the diagonals of the wonderful clouds; all extending from, or drawing to the island. Very well done visually.

Minor suggestion is the saturation. for me, not so much in the rocks or sky, but the clue for me is the sea just below the horizon. Just a bit too purple saturation for me and it kicks it beyond real for me. Oddly enough, I like the blue and purple sheen on the rocks, especially in the 2nd version. Lighter, more detail inthe rock, but yet the mood is still there.

Wonderful image on your return. Hope to see more!

Beautiful, David. I prefer the lighter version, but it's a coin flip. My initial response was to reduce the purple tones just a pinch, but the more I look at it, the more I like it as is. Nice work. :toast:

Great use of diagonals and the light on the rocks, bringing out those nice textures, really make this sing. The centered island in the distance works so well.

A beautiful sunset and interesting composition. I especially like the light reflecting off of some of the rocks.
