I didn't shoot many wildflowers this Spring; the bluebonnet bloom was disappointing. Another of my favorites is Prickly Poppy. On my way home from meeting my newest granddaughter I ran across a nice stand of poppies just as the sun was getting low in the sky. Had to scout around fighting off the grasshoppers to find a good subject and then had to contend with the wind messing with these long stemmed lovelies. I liked the shadow play on the petals and the light on the center. Please see the larger version to better appreciate the center details and petal textures. All comments welcome.>=))>

The lines and brightness changes in the petals are a wonderful backdrop to that lovely center and it's stunning detail. I can see why you think these poppies are special.

Beautiful, Bill. Several comments have been made about the nice whites, but IMO the star of the show is the center detail. :wavey:

The Prickly Poppy is my favorite prairie flower. The yellow center of the flower looks almost electric against the high key of the petals. Great image.

Beautifully composed, Bill, with a lovely play of light and shade. The petal textures are the gem for me - pure poppy !

The larger view is beautiful, Bill. I think that I have never met this type of poppy.
Cheers.
