Virginia Bluebells

These flowers usually hang pointed downward, so to get a look inside I did a ground level shot, looking up. The background is the sky and sunlight filtered through trees and on the grass.

Canon EOS 60D. 180mm macro lens. F/7.1 for 1/125 sec. ISO 160. Tripod mounted, flash fired.

Carolyn: One of the best bluebell images I've seen here in some time. Excellent DOF control and isolation against the BG. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

Exceptional bluebell image, Carolyn. Great job with the perspective and bg. It does look as if you applied some type of filter as this looks photo-artish to me. Nothing wrong with this; I like the processing and overall look. I am just curious.

This is a stunning image. Sweet and clear with wonderful color and a nicely complimentary bg.

No filter applied, Scott. Just normal editing. Background looks like this in the original.

I really like the underneath view Carolyn. To me the flash feels just a tad overdone - it sort of makes the flowers feel out of place against the BG to me.

I agree with Scott it has a photo art feel to this. Did you remove noise or smooth the image. There is a lack of fine detail...maybe this was just due to the strong lighting. Overall excellent image though. Nice choice to look up into the blue bells.

A very interesting and novel look at Bluebells. I'm struck by the few yellow anthers when most of them are white. Very well done.

I am a big fan of getting underneath flowers - especially when that's where their beauty is hidden. I so love the detail and shadowing on this. And the color contrasts are beautiful. Its hard to find a flower like this where all of its buds are fully blossomed and still fresh. Luv.
