NG singing dog (C)

The New Guinea singing dog is one of my favorite animals. It is a member of the dingo group of canines. Considered to be a feral animal, although some hold out for wild classification. This is an older male who's face is starting to turn white as it ages. This dog jumped up onto a tree stump which gave me a chance to get an eye level shot of it. Actually had the lens through the wire fence.

I've never heard of the singing dog. Very expressive photo that show the power of the animal. I do like the unusual BG. Image is best appreciated in the large version.

Very nice image quality, he pops against the dark vegetation. Think I might prefer a slightly looser composition, the head seems a bit centered. I recently watched a slightly corny movie "The Hunter" with Willem Defoe about the killing of the last Tazmanian Tiger, this species has a vague similarity in appearance - broad head, stocky legs, general color and shape Link here to Taz. Thanks for your comments. These dogs are great hunters. Some people have actually kept them as a pet, something I would not recommend. I watched one jump and catch a peacock who just took off and was only a few feet off the ground when the dog caught it. And, the dog was on a long leash. Singers have a unique vocalization which is where the name comes from. They are also known as Highland dogs, after the area in New Guinea where they are found.

This is an excellent portrait John of a species I had no idea it existed. Technically perfectly executed; spot-on exposure, DOF, nice BG, great detail. :toast:

The small image is perfect, just a little crowded. The larger image looks like just a small bit of motion is present.
