I know... Everyone's tired of snow...
The light on the great old tree really grabbed my attention. And something about the bright, icy snow pellets covering the dark wood made for an interesting foreground, and also great context of the rest of the tree.
I will say, this image doesn't strike me like some 'wow' images. Perhaps it's the lighting, my comp, processing, etc. I still do like the scene... I had my tripod about 5-9 inches from the tree, the camera angled slightly upward. BTW, does anyone else think the foreground looks like a horse head??

Thanks in advance for the comments/critique!

8 commentsActually the snow is rather refreshing at this point - it's 105deg outside my window right now. ;-)
Yes, I see the horse head! Nice job with exposing the snow and taming the highlights; although I think you could stand to burn down the face of the rock? wood? and also go as far as cloning out the errant sticks in the LRC.
I like the structure of the branches and that you've filled the frame. I think I'm a little torn on the comp as my brain goes back and forth between the upper tree and then the glistening snow on the bottom. Almost like they're two different scenes. But for sure your pov is different and you've executed this well.

I would maybe consider cloning out the slightly distracting branches out of the lower middle right edge of the scene?
First, I'll say it's WOOD, not a rock...
Eva--- Thanks. I actually happened to be walking right under this tree again, yesterday, just after I had read your comment. I took a close look at those upper branches, and they actually are significantly darker than the rest of the tree. However, I do think I could lighten them a touch...
Yep, those branches in the LRC do need to go. Glad you all caught that...
