Taking a Break

Out this morning to the local nature area to see what the deer were up to. Most of them were in grassy/weedy fields feeding on purple vetch a vine and a legume. They are one of the few plants still nice and green. With the long vines they were just grabbing and pulling. They got quite a bit to eat without too much effort. This gal was taking a short break to give me a nice pose. The green veg and the purple flowers in the photo are the vetch plants. I wish I could have gotten a bit more of that nice light on her body onto the head but this is what I got. Slightly warmed the photo plus lightly sharpened for the web. Comments and critiques welcome and appreciated.

Ah yes, that pesky Purple Vetch, I'm always yanking the stuff out by the roots from my shrubs and flower beds. But, the thing I like most about your "photo" is the way you have managed to capture some of that beautiful gentle "deerness" in the face of this lovely doe. The dappled light works nicely for this placid subject, revealing just enough to appreciate her features. It might be tempting to try and retain some of the nice purple vetch that you recalled in the scene, but I think I would crop some from the right side to remove that small colorful distraction. Sometimes I think you either have to have a good quantity of surrounding color or none - no halfway. The small crop, in my opinion, would also give more emphasis to the deer.
One of your best Peter!
