Nearly two years afo I had the distinct privilege of being one of the first self drivers into the previously restricted Western area of Etosha National Park. On one remarkable day we found four Black Rhino in the open and in good light.

This os one of them

Another seriously endangered species.
Always a pleasure to see one alive and strutting his/her stuff.
The rhino shows well against the dry grass but less well against the bushes behind.
I have the same problem, whenever I want a photo they insist on showing me their arse.

Beautiful shot Ken, love the size of the rhino in the frame, the head turn and the interesting landscape. I also like the bi-toned color of the hide from wading in mud I assume. I can only drool when I see the abundance of wildlife and variety of species still present in Africa, as evidenced in your photography. So sad that wildlife in North America are becoming so scarce (in general) in comparison. Not many herds of buffalo on our plains these days. :frown:

Good pose, exposure, and lighting---the two tone color of the rhino came out nicely. Glad to see these endangered animals :toast: ................Jim

Wonderful Rhino shot Ken! I really like the profile view because it lets those massive horns really stick out. Nice lighting and great background on this one. Your amazing shots from Zimbabwe inspired us to include ZImbabwe (Zambeze River & Hwange NP) on our next Africa trip (one month to go) so maybe the one after that will have to include Namibia....so much for the retirement fund.

Thanks everybody :toast:

Martin,
I have some coming towards me, I just liked the pose in this one
Gary and Jim,
Given the daily "negative" publicity about Rhino, I am sure you would be surprised to see how many there still are.
Joseph,
I apologise for diminishing your retirement fund, but there are so many places to go to, and you cannot take it with you
If you really want to go to Namibia then drop me an email (sniktawk@telkomsa.net) and I can help your planning, this offer is of course open to all :toast:
