Spring Oasis
by Todd Liotine
This was an amazingly crisp clear spring morning in the valley without a sole around except me and my photography buddy(my 9 year daughter likes to get up with me before dawn and go out with me on my photo trips). I know spectacular colorful skies are are the norm around here, but that was not the case while in Yosemite last week, so working with what I had I tried to create something that convey the feeling of the scene. With the sun coming up fast through the trees I decided to try wider and wider comps and create a sunstar through the trees instead of avoiding flare. On the technical side-when I downsized the jpeg it appeared to crunch the tones a bit the sky appears a little blown on the right, it's not blown full size. Unforetunately, I had to switch over to my 14-24 for this shot and my cpl for that got smashed up and haven't replaced it yet. I could have opened the shadows etc but I really like the blue-green-black vibe as shot.
As always let me know what you think.

Jorne-Thanks just to clarify the white in the sky isnt really a feature as much as I didnt want to reprocess the image for the web. The infomation is there and I am going to reprocess if I print this image or put it on my website. Thanks
I enjoyed the thought of you being able to share this type of early morning outing with your daughter also. She is at the right age to begin storing up the fond memories in life such as this morning sunrise.
Knowing how bustling crazy it can get on the bridge, this image does a great job of portraying quiet and calm. No doubt at this time you had the place to yourself - which, is real important because the bridge isn't bouncing up and down! I really like the backlit greens throughout.
What may look like haloing over by Royal Arch I think comes across as natural lighting just the way the valley and geography work out.
Lovely capture from this popular spot.

(What a special time for your daughter...; for both of you!)
