Joshua Tree Totem Pole

Temporarily fixated on Photo Art, I guess, thanks to Marc, I started looking through some really old archives and found one from 11/02 of a Joshua Tree. You may be thinking, “You too?” (yucca, yucca). But seriously, it’s not a tree, and Bono is no Mormon (as far as I know). But they are all over the place in the National Park; Joshua Trees, that is.

Anyway, this image was a landscape format close-up of the “trunk”; not really a tree and so not really a trunk. So for this forum, I decided to play around this afternoon and see what happened. I gave it a 90° CCW rotation. Then I tried a few bilateral symmetry manipulations: They’re always good for a few laughs.

Sometimes we remember pictures for the circumstances, and what I remember most about this trip to Palm Springs is that I contracted a mysterious respiratory infection that manifested in a high temperature and significant respiratory bleeding so I went to the local emergency room. Over $8,000 later, they couldn’t find anything wrong. But on the plane, headed home, I sat next to a guy who had had the exact same symptoms, and he had not visited the Park. Go figure.

John, I can't say why... and there's nothing to point to, but this reminds me of some of the imagery presented on HBO"s "Game of Thrones" The black and white, the hard edges, are all very evocative...

Thanks for looking and commenting, Marc. Since our brains are wired for face recognition, this technique often produces that effect. In this one, I see a rabbit, a dog and lots of other strange creatures. Hence the totem title.

I have an HDR to post and will check out whether this is the right forum for it.
