One of my recent monochrome playing-arounds.

Your honest thoughts are most welcome. Taken in the southern reaches of the Kruger National Park...September 2011.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f4.0 | 1/320 SS | ISO-200

Oh, and since I know it's coming...I dig the vignette like that...

I am off to Etosha on Saturday, see you all on the flipside!

Great portrait shot of this beautiful lioness Morkel, I think you've captured her strength and stateliness very effectively.

I have tried this kind of framing with standing animals and although it works...it never fully satisfies my sense of compositional balance. I am thinking a head and shoulders vertical would have more impact, but in the field I almost always try something similar to what you are showing. Your techs look very good. The vignette is subjective, so not a critique but a preference, I think a little lighter will work well without calling attention to the processing. The mood of this lioness makes for great portrait interest and you seem to have her tack sharp! All in all, fine work.
