The New Tenant & Repost

My wife and I were in the back yard this afternoon when I spotted this long tailed weasel dashing on the far side of the pump house. We have a water filter that back flows periodically and it goes into a 4 inch drain pipe where we channel it to an area we're converting to wet meadow. The weasel popped in one end and came out the other, then went back in. I went back for the camera and hoped I could catch it coming out. This was the result. If I reached for any controls it ducked back inside, so I left after one sequence of shots to let it go about it's business.

1DIV, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on RRS legs, f13, 1/250th, iso 500, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Processed in CS6 and cropped to vertical from a horizontal original. Taken today at 1:59 pm.

Since I'm not normally a poster on this gallery, I'm especially interested in your opinions.

Thanks for looking,

Nice catch. The foreground environment doesn't diminish the detail in his fur and the bright eyed stare. Cute little fellow.

Very cool dennis, one of my all time favs. I dont think the grasses in front hurt this image at all.

I was telling Wade you must have a clear line of sight to the eye, so the viewer can connect.
Houston we have lift-off
Excellent detail, color, clarity, and exposure Dennis.
I especially like the peek-a-boo factor

Really nice image. Beautiful pose, very clear eyes, and good details. .I also like your crop. Looks like a tint of purple in the coat which I am assuming is the natural state and very nice. (Tint may just be from my monitor)

Excellent in every way. The seed heads of the the grass stems emphasize the composition, and I like that the weasel is leaning into the frame from the lower right. Congrats on a rare and cool capture.

The "hide and seek" quality makes the comp quite interesting Dennis. Eyes are in the right place. Nicely done indeed.

Nice work capturing those black beady eyes in perfect focus, they really demand the viewers attention. Spot on exposure as well. I enjoy this photo very much just as it is Dennis, cute subject trying to be all incognito in the grasses. I should probably stop there, but I think I would crop a sliver off the top to tighten things up a little, enough to bring the weasel's left eye to the power position in that old classic rule of thirds. Regardless, I would be very happy with this photo as is!!! :toast:

Very nice indeed. These are fast moving and elusive little animals. At least the very few I have seen! I like the grass stalks in front of the animal: they emphasize its elusive nature. Sharp focus on the weasel.

Gary suggested a modification to the crop to put the left eye at the one-third point. I tried it and I must say, I like it. Thanks, Gary :wavey:

Sweet photo from a great encounter Dennis. I like the re-post better too. Great eye contact through the grass, your f-stop choice seems perfect, nice fur detail.
