Extreme Frog

Extreme because of severe crop and processing. I believe this worked out well but *really* want opinions on sharpness (over sharpened?) and have I gone too far in cropping. Some cloning to twigs and grasses.

Olympus E-5
50-200mm @147mm FL
1/320 sec @ f8
-2.0 ev
ISO 100

tripod and cropped to approximately 25% of FF

Large view

Will greatly appreciate critique and comments.

The sharpness looks fine, Charlie. Very nice portrait of this frog. I think you could crops some more. I'd crop on the right up to the plant leaf. The part of the body to the right of that doesn't give anything to the image. I'd then crop on the left to balance it, however you want. Color is nice and the eye with catch light is spot on. Are those frog eggs in the photo?

I agree with Peter on the sharpening; I think it looks spot on. I also think the cropping is good as is. Any more and you start to lose a perspective of where the guy is.

Charlie,
This looks OK to me, but I wonder if you have given any thought to "removing" the grass cutting through the head, it must be worth a try?

I have thought about different crops and may yet settle on one. There was a grass stem right in front of the eye and I cloned that out and it made significant difference and looked so much better that I just left the other blade. It would be easy to clone that and I probably will.

Thanks all.

Oh, and I believe that frog spawn is black. That is just froth around that rock, I think.

I think you did really well in the processing. I like the crispness of the colors and the sharpness.

Charlie the sharpness look ok to me and I could not suggest a better crop the only thing that distracts and it can't be helped is the stem through the nose of the Frog, its a very nice image and I wish it was mine.

I love this Charlie! Crispness and detail are spot on IMHO.
