Here is another pre sunrise image from white pocket. The lines and shapes here were very attractive and the contrast of the moody blue sky and rich red sandstone was perfect. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Great mood in that sky indeed, Peter. I think the sky saturation needs to be brought down, though. The hue/tone of it is perfect, but it can be way more subdued while still being powerfully contrasted against the warm tones in the land. I took a screenshot and quick-selected the sky, and to my eye, a hue/saturation layer (in saturation blending mode) brought down 30pts looks perfect.

Great to see you made it to White Pocket! We should hook up when I'm down in the SW in October.

Thanks Alex, I'm sure the blues could be toned down a bit, I wanted both colors to be extra rich for more contrast, but I will look into toning down the sky.

By the way what areas are you going to be hanging around? It definitely would be great to meet up and shoot some.

I like the strong lines in the foreground and the way they lead my eye throughout the frame. The warm / cool contrast here is amazing as well. Very well composed and captured.

For what it's worth I shared this image on FB and it seemed to be a hit so it definitely has a lot of appeal.

Love the comp and ominous colors here, Peter. I might push back the vibrance of the blues just a bit, but otherwise the processing looks dead on. Great capture! :toast:

Hey Peter

Great perspective here, it captures the essence of what the morning brought us. I agree, just a slight tone down, especially the reds and blue, the yellow seems spot on.

It was great fun shooting with you and Doug, hope we can do it again sometime.

Later,

Shane :toast:

Here is a repost with the desaturation in the sky.

Alex, just let me know closer to the time you are down here, there are some excellent places to shoot in late october for fall colors.

Thanks Shane, it was a fun trip and we will definitely have to do another trip in the future. By the way, if you have any images of me from that trip, would you mind emailing them to me? I thought you might have taken one or two. If not no big deal.

Yep, that's what I'd say, too, in echo of your own thoughts-- perfect.

It looks otherworldly, a bit sinister in a fascinating way. I want to stay and look but am afraid of what I might see! This image definitely evokes my imagination!
