Two Rocks

Early spring greens and moss covered rocks in a small creek in the Columbia River Gorge of Oregon. I got down really low in the water and used the wide angle distortion to accentuate the foreground rocks.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24 at 14mm, no filters
2 images blended for DOF, 0.5 sec at f/16, ISO 50

When shooting this scene, I used both the 14-24 without a polarizer and the 16-35 with a polarizer and actually preferred the image without the polarizer. The unpolarized image is what you see here. Kind of blows up the old "rule" that you must use a polarizer when shooting water in the Gorge!

Thanks for any comments or suggestions you have. Please check out the larger version.

Very nice image, Scott. I like the perspective and your composition overall. The subtle light really brings out the subtle variations in the green tones as well.

Gorgeous capture here, Scott. I like the composition as well as the overall water detail and or shutter speed usage. I also appreciate the experimentation and usage with the polarizer and without for another look. Good thinking and going against the norm. In this case the ending visual effect and over all appeal outweighed the expected results. A very fine capture and end processing.

Scott, This is really nice! I really like your comp and the light is wonderful. Yes, I would have thought I would be using a polarizer here, so interesting the shot without was your choice. I really enjoyed looking at your larger version! :toast:

A wonderful POV and those greens are just gorgeous, Scott. I would never have guessed that no polarizer was used.

Thats the way to do it! Get in there and make special use of the wide angle. Great job Scott.

The glowing greens are terrific and work well in leading the eyes through this inviting scene. I also like how you've put bits of white water at the bottom. Definitely a luscious scene. I too have recently found that the polarizer can have negative effects of some scenes.

Very nice perspective Scott, the greens are amazing. I did a quick scroll crop and think I would like this even more with a small crop to eliminate that whitewater at the bottom, or maybe even leave a tad bit there. :toast:

Looks so vibrant Scott. The comp with the leading boulders works so well, processing right on too. Maybe a slight crop off the left? :toast:

Very nice Scott...love how you got in the middle of the stream to capture this. Perfect blend...something I need to work on.

The yellows and greens work great here and the composition pulls me in effectively. The large version really works well in this regard.

Luscious is the only word I can think of. I can feel the mist in gorge. Great job with the exposure, it's spot on. No nits from me.

The "glow" is fantastic and 1/2 sec was perfect to hold some detail in the water. The perspective makes this standout as an exceptional image! Congratulations and thanks for posting! :toast:

Love the symmetry of your composition, the wonderful greens and the water motion, which you nailed in my opinion. The stream really leads the eye back nicely to a wonderful glow in the far canopy. Fantastic.
