Red-Tailed Hawk

This is I think a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk, with his tail not yet red (but will defer to alternative identification). He was oblivious to me while he tore apart a rabbit, but soon turned his attention to my shutter going off when he was done. This is cropped to approx 85% of the original image and he only veered off when I stood up.

Nikon D7000, Nikon 300mm and 1.4 tc.
1/1250, F/5.6, ISO 160.

Thanks
Iain

Very cool, Iain. Neat to get him coming right at you like that. I'm not sure, but I think the focus was on the breast. You might try some additional selective sharpening of the head.

Dennis, Thanks! you're right - I sharpened the head and wing tips in LR4 and have tried to re-post to this message.
I confess that my concentration was shaken with memories of an old Kirk Douglas movie involving Vikings and face tearing raptors

Good re-post Iain, plane builders can take notice of the wing shape on this Hawk, it does look like a young Red-Tailed but hard to tell from this view. excellent comp. filling the frame nicely. :toast:
