The area is about 4' x about 1'. The shadow is from jetty rocks just out of the photo. Taken on Benson Beach near Columbia River Mouth North Jetty. Canon 40D; f13; 200ISO; 1/100th; Canon 18-200 @ 100; handheld; Elements 6 auto contrast and Canon Zoom Browser automatic correction.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for posting in Photo Art but, I'm going to move this over to the Macro & Close-Up Gallery as it fits that gallerie's parameters more.

I like the abstract lines and shades, Jim. Good eye to see this.

he S curve is very nice with the ripples on one side. Not sure what the shadows add but maybe they were unavoidable?

This is very nice in terms of the distinct bands of luminance, that it is a close-up, and the contrast in scale between different levels of waves; sort of macro and micro levels on the center to right side, and then the non-wave, more irregular line of the shadow on the left side.

This brings into question what it is we mean by the word "wave", and I think it's evident that some sort of regularity is required. That is what is lacking at the interface between the darkest and lightest interface but present throughout the rest.

I like the S curve and the dichotomy of the patterns and smooth slope. I don't think the shadow works in the image, to my eye it detracts from the scene rather than adds to it.
